Class begins at 8AM EST sharp! You goal should be to get logged in by 7:40 AM. It will take a few minutes for the class page to appear -- be patient. You should see a small video at the top left. The "Audio" for class is muted until the Trainer actually begins to teach at 8:00 AM
Upon arrival you will be promted to provide the last 4 digits of your SSN and your full name to the host via CHAT. Below the video, click on the grey tab that says "Private," then double click on "Leaders or Assistants" and another chat window will appear at the bottom where you can type to the host directly. Follow that and your student manual during the day. ![]() The link to the textbook and other materials will be sent to you by the host, but are also available to be printed from this page as well if you want to print them before the start of class Keep reading, you'll see it!! Keep in mind some text is quite extensive. You can type a question in the chat at any time. Questions the host cannot answer will be given to the trainer during normal Q and A time slots. WARNING
Abacus is required by the NMLS per the SAFE-Act regulations to confirm the presence and identity of the person attending class at a remote location. Throughout the day, you must watch the Chat screen for interaction from the "Panelists." In this area, POLLS will appear throughout the day in a new tab. You will have a short, but reasonable amount to time to answer the multiple choice poll to verify your attendance and attention. Failure to respond correctly and in a timely manner during class, can result in the revocation of credit hours and/or expulsion from the online classroom. NOTE: There is no audible warning a poll is in progress so keep an eye on the screen. SUGGESTION: Often students will close the CHAT tab or cover it with the PDF of the text booklet and neglect to respond to a POLL. If you are planning to have the PDF open on your screen, make sure to size it so as not to cover the tabs on the side of the screen. Keep the CHAT tab open & refer to it OFTEN throughout the day to be sure not to miss a required interaction. If you've printed out the booklet and are following along at your desk, be sure to keep an eye up for POLLS & CHAT from the "Leaders." The experience will consist of: w A real-time stream of the trainer teaching the course live. You will have a small video with clear audio. w The PowerPoint slides of the course outline -- this is the same as what the 'in-person' attendees see. The slides will advance automatically as the class moves forward. w Your student manual. This is provided in PDF form. You can print it out or view it on screen. The PowerPoint display you will be viewing is the same as the instructor and in-class students have. Every slide of the PowerPoint references the page number of the student manual. So, you always can find out 'where we are' along the way. Pre-printed copies of the manual can be shipped to you ahead of class. There is a $15.00 shipping charge for that service. (Must have at least 3 days between registration and class day to get them on time) w Periodic quizzes will be fed to you via the iLinc window. The quiz will appear where the PowerPoint is normally displayed. These are the same practice quizzes completed by the 'in-person' attendees. w Polls and contact: several times per hour, at random intervals, polls will appear on the screen. You must respond to these polls so we can certify that you are attending. w Q and A: You will be able to ask questions of the trainer by typing them in the chat. The facilitator will read your question during the question and answer periods. This is exactly the same protocol as experienced by the live 'in-person' attendees; we do not allow random questions during the 'exposition' portion of each section of content. How to attend: w Links to student manuals and resources for our classes: 8-Hour CE course "SAFE Passage 2010" 20-hour PE course "Mortgage Origination Mastery" 4-Hour PE "North Carolina Mortgage Laws and Duties of Care" w Give the class your attention. We suggest that you have your student manual open, either as a PDF open in your tray, or a hard copy on your desk, having printed it out. Some people take notes right in the manual, others on separate media. This class is packed! There is much to cover and at times we are flying along. The information is vital to you in general as a Mortgage Loan Officer, with the added urgency that the course is geared to covering as thoroughly as possible the material asked for on the NMLS National Test. w Stay present. We are required by the SAFE Act and associated regulations to ascertain that you are actually there, attending the class and paying attention. There will be random polls popping up. They have a very short duration. If you do not respond to the poll it indicates you are not present. Within a reasonable but limited scope, if we determine you are not attending, we will suspend access and you will not receive credit hours. This policy is consistent with practice at in-person class. We provide frequent breaks and an hour for lunch in the middle of the day, so make plans to stay at the computer just as if you were attending in-person. w Interact. You will not have voice contact with the class facilitator or the trainer. You may ask any questions you want, however. You will see the Q and A function on your screen. Type your questions there. Some will be answered by the facilitator, some may be put to the trainer during regular Q and A time. The facilitator is your 'proxy' at live class and we hope will represent you well. Basic requirements: w Complete the identity survey before you enter class. w High speed internet DSL/Cable (not dialup) w Computer running any version of Microsoft Windows. w The latest version of Internet Explorer or Firefox. (Do not use Safari, AOL or another browser) w Your computer must have working speakers or headphones. w Make sure you've run the set up mentioned above. (Click here if you have not done the iLinc software setup yet. w That's all! After class: After class we will send your Certificate of Completion to you via email within one week. We also report your credit hours to the appropriate regulatory agencies. If you have any questions, hit "reply" on the email we sent you confirming your registration and type your question at the top.
