Paul Donohue's Mortgage Training Philosophy
I guarantee the four tenets of my philosophy presented on this page; you will always see them in me, I will always offer them when I walk in the room.
PASSION
This industry is amazing. I wake up every day with joy of life because I'm part of it, in really deep. Think of the sums of money involved. Think what it took for the lender to amass the wealth needed to fund a mortgage. Think of what the borrower must have accomplished to arrive at this moment. And there I am, right on the spot, adding significant value, facilitating the quintessential transaction at the heart of the American Dream. "I'm helping them get their house."
There are so many aspects to the industry, such depth that I am never bored. This is the root source of wealth, never lagging, driving the economy, stoked by the fundamental quest to own a piece of America and make a place for family. That is no "new economy" fad, no flavor-of-the-month. I am inspired to say the industry has "longevity," but that's an understatement: it is permanent.
I don't care if anyone thinks I am over the top in my love for this industry; I might as well warn you: I think it is amazing, I intend to inculcate that emotion in your team, and I am out to enlighten the whole industry in just how fantastic it is.
REASON
The second assurance of quality in all my presentations is "Reason." This means facts and logic. I know my business, I have command of the material through knowledge and experience. Every exposition is presented with intelligent structure, clear language and confidence that I've "got it down." You will see the light go on in the eyes of your team members when they "get it" too.
EXPERIENCED
I operate under the maxim: "You can't teach what you haven't done, you can't lead where you won't run." I offer my services with assurance that I'm doing and running.
Worker: I originate loans. I've done it thousands of times. This is ongoing and substantial.
Manager: I created a staff in support of my efforts, an office with obligations, payroll and day-to-day details. With this comes respect for the cost of managing well.
Leader: My bio page details the many positions of responsibility filled for the industry at large. I am aware of my leadership role, and welcome it gladly.
Advocate: I write on the industry for the trade, make its case before the government, and never stop acting like a cheerleader, although not an obnoxious one, I hope.
PRINCIPLED
The facts, reasonably presented, is the "stuff" of my presentation. But the content, the substance, will always be "principles." I operate under the philosophy that principled behavior must be foremost in the mind of the professional, that bringing integrity, character and values to the table yields success.
Yes, we must be competent, responsible and trained in the basics as a starting point. But to really succeed, we cannot fail to infuse every aspect of behavior with the highest human virtues. This makes our work authentic and powerful.
Relationship Selling, Reciprocity, Victimless Transaction, The Benefit Principle, Needs vs Wants...I think about these matters all the time. I've explored, expounded on and organized themes that penetrate down to the root of value creation through principles. I've written them up and designed trainings and presentations in them, and I offer them to you as my best wisdom.
I remain always hyper-conscious of the time, effort and money you invest when you engage my services. This drives me to bring impact. It wakes me up at night. Before my presentation with you, I won't rest easy. That's the way I like it.
